About Us

Anchor Bowmen Archery Club has been in existence for over 50 years and the earliest record known are minutes of a committee meeting from 1963 held at the Roebuck Inn, Melbourne, Derbyshire.

Anchor Caves

The Archery club's name came from where it originally started, at the ground adjacent to the church at Swarkestone. This is very close to the River Trent and a hermit's cave known as the Anchor Cave, which is understood to have originated from the earlier name of the church, The Anchor Church at Swarkestone Bridge.

The club has had many changes of ground over the last 40 years; Swarkestone, Elvaston Castle, British Rail, Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Ground, Derby Rugby Club, Spondon Sports and Leisure Centre, but has always managed to retain its character and deep interest in the sport of Target Archery.

The Target Archery Club now meets at the Asterdale Sportsgrounds, Borrowash Road, Spondon, Derby and during the winter months at West Park School, West Park Road, Spondon, Derby. The club has been at The Asterdale since 1995.

The Club is a voluntary group which is affiliated to the following organisations;
